Director of Public Relations

JSA+Partners, a tight-knit, fast-paced boutique public relations firm, is looking for an executive communications director to join our growing team and oversee efforts to enhance the visibility and reputation of key executives across our portfolio of digital media, consumer technology, and esports & gaming clients. In this newly created role, you would be responsible for executing media relations and thought leadership strategies for leading industry experts. This is a great opportunity to join a small team and make a big impact.

The role is based in New York City or Los Angeles.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that elevate the profiles of JSA+Partners clients' executives and position them as industry thought leaders.
  • Engage in proactive, creative idea generation and trendjacking opportunities on behalf of clients.
  • Secure interviews and meet-and-greets for executive clientele in highly visible outlets.
  • Media train key spokespeople and prepare them for media interactions and speaking engagements.
  • Identify and apply for high-impact conferences, awards, and other valuable thought leadership opportunities
  • Maintain, develop, and grow strong media relationships, pitch thoughtful story ideas, and draft creative written materials that reflect an understanding of our clients’ businesses.
  • Keep a pulse on digital media, consumer technology, and gaming industry trends as they unfold.
  • Advise executives on LinkedIn and social media strategy, as needed.
  • Manage and motivate a cross-functional team, setting and reviewing goals; work to maximize strengths, improve weaknesses and support career development.
  • Build relationships and network with decision-makers to source and acquire new business opportunities.
  • Provide communications guidance for crises and issues management.

YOU SHOULD APPLY IF YOU:

  • Have at least 8-10+ years of experience in public relations and communications (agency or in-house).
  • Have exceptional media relations skills and established reporter relationships in business, technology, advertising, entertainment and other key verticals.
  • Have a strong track-record of building and securing thought leadership opportunities for executives and key company spokespeople.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Are able to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Are a strategic thinker, intellectually curious, a problem solver, and enjoy bringing new ideas to the table.
  • Are incredibly organized, detail-oriented, and can manage multiple accounts simultaneously.
  • Able to lead teams – both directs and indirect.
  • Are a self-starter and self-confident, but also enjoy having fun.
  • Can work in a fast-paced environment, switching back and forth frequently.
  • Are focused on working during the day so you can enjoy your life.
  • Have a hunger and desire to grow as a PR professional.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the consumer technology, digital media, and gaming landscape.
  • Strong relationships across business, technology, entertainment, and consumer media as well as conference organizers.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, editing, and organizational skills.
