This Girl Walks Into A Bar / This Girl Mixers
Started in 2010, founders and sisters Jordan & Jocelyn created This Girl Walks Into A Bar, a boutique bartending company, to offer a white-glove service to residents and businesses looking for skilled, professional, and friendly bartenders. The company and its sister enterprise, This Girl Mixers, offer a range of products including custom bartending, alcoholic drink mixes, snacks, and more. The team has collaborated with over 140 local bartenders who rely on This Girl Walks Into A Bar to connect them with opportunities to mix drinks and liven up parties.
Due to the fires in the Pacific Palisades, This Girl Walks Into A Bar’s bartending equipment, uniforms, mixology tools, and supplies were lost, forcing the business to close its doors. However, This Girl Mixers fortunately shipped its largest production to date to a nearby facility just weeks before the fires, preserving the majority of its product and keeping the business afloat. The companies’ founders are now focusing on This Girl Mixes as they regroup, support each other, and rebuild their family business.
BoxUnion
BoxUnion is an LA-based full-body workout that blends boxing, HIIT, strength, energy, community and, of course, your favorite music. Classes encourage guests ranging from beginners to experienced enthusiasts to put on their gloves, find their flow, and let their inner fighter out. BoxUnion offers its 45-minute classes at three locations: Santa Monica, Robertson, and Sherman Oaks.
Both of BoxUnion’s founders, Felicia and Todd, lost their homes to the LA wildfires, as did many of the company’s members. As they began to rebuild their lives, they also used BoxUnion as a tool to support other impacted residents, including offering clubs for showers, workouts, or retail space, replacing members’ destroyed gloves, and offering free classes for evacuees and first responders and their families – those who may need a positive outlet to relieve their emotions most.
Flour Pizza
Flour Pizza is a local pizzeria that opened last year in the Palisades and quickly became “the spot” in town – especially for all the local school kids nearby. The owner Robert Flute, lost both his home and store front in the fire. He was planning on opening a Brentwood store later this year but fast tracked the opening to Valentine’s Day since his motto is “Pizza is Love.”
For the opening, Flour gave away free pizzas to fire victims and first responders and raised awareness for the new location. He is embracing the Brentwood community and hopes to rebuild in the Palisades when he is able to do so.
Fable
Fable creates enchanting mobile petting farms for parties, corporate events, product launches, and more. Our thoughtfully curated setups and gentle animals provide a unique, joyful way to connect with animals up close. Our friendly crew ensures a memorable experience for all.
Mia White and her husband Joey Chavez and their children, Emme (13), Nico (10), & Shylo (7) lost their home and their mobile petting farm business Fable in the Eaton Fires. They were able to rescue their 60+ animals. They left with little else, losing everything from clothes to all the materials used to run the business (handmade corrals, etc.). They restarted events in LA in early March (about two months after the fire). They rebuilt a corral and materials to get started and are continuing to rebuild to support growth of the business.
Root + Petal
Root + Petal is operated by Rosalyn Phipps, a mobile florist operating out of her dining room and delivering from her car. Root + Petal is Rosalyn’s fresh take on floral design, bringing personalized, high-quality blooms directly to customers without a traditional storefront.
Rosalyn is a former Manager and Lead Designer at Palisades Flowers, a beloved local icon lost in the Palisades fire. She spent a decade working her way up from part-time florist to a key figure in the shop. For many locals, she was the face of Palisades Flowers, present nearly every day and managing its social media. Despite a tough 30-mile commute, Rosalyn fell in love with the “whimsical little seaside cottage flower shop” and was grateful for the opportunities it provided. Looking ahead, she hopes to build a backyard shed workspace and eventually open her own brick-and-mortar store.
Code Ninjas
Code Ninjas has served the Altadena community where kids explored coding, robotics, and STEM. It was a place of learning, creativity, and community.
Without power, internet, and water, franchise owner Ashima Gupta was forced to shut down and nearly every student canceled enrollment. Rather than shut down, Code Ninjas is planning to continue supporting the Altadena community with alternative programming and summer camps.
Joonbird Shop
Joonbird is a children’s clothing line started by Soli Cooksey in Altadena 8 years ago. Soli makes all of her collections from sustainable fabrics sourced locally and prints her own original designs on her items. Operated out of her home, she lost all of her inventory and designs in the Eaton fire.
Soli is looking to relaunch with both a children's and women’s line in early 2026 and is currently working to recreate her patterns, source fabric to reprint, and rebrand the business.
El Patron
El Patron is an Altadena-based Mexican restaurant that has been serving the community since 2010. Known for its flautas, chile verde, and popular wine-based margaritas, the restaurant is considered one of the best places to enjoy authentic Mexican food in the area.
While El Patron did not lose its building during the Eaton fire, it is one of the few standing businesses on North Lake Avenue in Altadena and was forced to close for two months as the community worked to protect the area. Since its reopening in March, El Patron is focused on serving the Altadena community and finding moments where those who were impacted by the fire can gather and enjoy delicious food. El Patron is open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM for in-restaurant dining and to-go orders.
